I’ll Help You Carry On – Denhoff, North Dakota
$40.00 – $525.00
Long Exposure Photograph of an abandoned farmhouse illuminated by our Protomachines flash, set to fiery orange. The unincorporated town of Denhoff—population: 13, according to the 2020 census—was another casualty of the large corporately-managed farms that took over middle America in the ’70s. Towns like Denhoff endured the collapse, did their best to carry on, but unemployment caused population to dwindle over the coming decades. It makes you stop and think about the residents who never left and why. Did they just grin and bear it? Or did they cherish their home so immensely, nothing, not even an industry decimated, could drive them away. After a few different angles, we bid farewell to the old man with the broad smile. Even from a distance, you couldn’t ignore if you tried.
