Slug Bug No Returns – Conway, Texas
$40.00 – $525.00
Long exposure photograph of one of Route 66’s most off-beat attractions. You’ve more than likely seen or even possibly visited the infamous Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo: 10 graffiti-coated Caddies buried nose-first into the Texas dust. Well the totally underrated “Slug Bug Ranch” is twice the spray paint with a fraction of the crowd. We’ve always felt a more personal connection to these (now) very heavily decorated VWs! There was a time, long long ago, when the gift shop associated with the Bugs was open. Then – poof! – like a thief in the night, everything inside was grabbed or vandalized as if the shop owner skipped town and left the keys in the door. Sadly, this is a common theme on Route 66 these past couple decades, so enjoy what’s left while it’s still there…and not yet coated in the work of amateur taggers. We traded in our spray paint for red light from our Protomachines flashlight and let the full moon do the rest.
